Today was the first Saturday in a while that we have had Shane home, and we took advantage of it. First, Shane and I went yard-sale-ing and then to breakfast for Father's Day, since we can't go tomorrow. While we were gone, the kids played with the Wii that they earned for good behavior. (Well, everyone but Luke got to play. He still has to have a few days of good behavior to earn his turn.) The three oldest have been working for 3 months to earn enough points to earn the Wii. We were lukcy to find one unadvertised at our local Walmart, so they could actually have one when they earned their points. They spent the morning learning how to use it, while Shane and I ate a yummy breakfast that I didn't have to cook. It was great!!
Then we got home, got things cleaned up, and went to Grand Island. Shane took everyone but Parker to see Kung-Fu Panda, and I took Parker grocery shopping. They loved the movie, and I got food so they wouldn't starve. All in all, a pretty good set-up. We got ice cream at DQ, and headed home. While I unloaded the groceries, Shane played with the kids outside. In the middle of unloading, Shane comes in and asks if I want to bike ride with them. He has the two littlest loaded up in the trailer and is ready to go. I said, "Sure," and off we went.
We have this bike trail just down the road from our house. It goes for about 1/5 miles by a creek, and through some parks and trees, and is usually quite lovely. With all the water that we have received in the last few weeks, it has been flooded and a river of chocolate milk has been in place of the creek. Well, the water receded and the trail was visible, so I thought it would be a fun place to go. Not too long, some shade, little hills and pretty scenery. Well, mostly pretty scenery. Everywhere that had been flooded is colored brown with the mud that was left behind when the water went back in the banks of the creek. And some places had a bit of an odor of decomposition from being under water so long. Shane was carting the two little ones and brought up the rear while I lead the way since I was the only one who had ridden there as of yet. Part way through the trail, I yelled back to Shane is see how he was doing. (He's not used to riding bikes quite like the kids and I are.) He yells back, "I'm tough as nails!" Luke is right behind me at this point and he says, "Not me! I'm weak as a kitten!" I almost laughed myself off my bike. I'm not quite sure where they come up with these things.
We came home tired but happy, had some dinner, got the kids bathed for church tomorrow, and are just taking it easy until we get the kids in bed. It has been a great day.
