Puppies and Reading in Bed

Yesterday we had some friends come over to practice a song with me for church, and they brought their puppies, who are 3 and 1/2 weeks old. They brought them over a 2 weeks ago when we had a tornado warning and they needed to share our basement. They are the ones that live in an RV and need shelter when the weather gets crazy. Anyway, they brought the puppies for the kids to see, and it was so cute to watch their little eyes light up with the sweet little puppies on their laps.

While the older kids got to hold the puppies, the littles ones were in bed early because of a way-too-little nap time earlier in the day. Parker slept one hour, Tanner didn't sleep at all. When I went up to tuck them in, Tanner asked for a book to read. I handed him a farm animal book, he smiled, then said, "But Mom, I can't read da book." I guess he realizes that there is a difference between looking at the pictures and actually reading the words. Smart little guy!

Parker has also been trying to talk, and I can never get it fast enough to put on video, so you get a verbal run down on his attempts. This morning he woke up at 6:00 a.m. and mom wasn't ready to get out of bed yet. I went in to see if I could get him to take a binky and go back to bed. I swear when I opened the door that he said, "I awake." I whispered, "No, you're not!" gave him a binky, covered him up, and left the room. We both woke up at 7:30, so it must have worked. Also, today as we were coming home from Grand Island, we got ice cream cones for every one but Parker. He could see that he was being left out, and started grunting for someone to share. Shane took his binky, dipped it in ice cream, and popped it into his mouth. A minute or so later I hear Parker say "again" and he is holding his binky out to Shane. Smart even littler guy!

Shane and Casey,

I hope you guys are adjusting and loving your new home. We were actually thinking of coming to Nebraska this summer because Amber's brother is there right now selling security systems. However, Amber is expecting our 3rd child and has been going through that horrible first stage so we decided to stay home. Luckily she is about over the sickness, but her other brother is getting married soon so we aren't able to get away. Anyway, I just wanted to say hi. Hope things are going well. Larry

Cute, cute pics! btw, I read your blog about the rain--I remember the summer we spent in Ohio a few years ago, Nick didn't believe us about the rain. Then we went camping...
